About Us
Visionary Solutions is more than a counseling and advocacy center — it’s a movement toward empowerment, inclusion, and understanding. We were founded to fill a gap between emotional care, educational fairness, and practical support for individuals facing vision loss or life challenges.
We believe that growth happens when people are seen, heard, and supported — not judged or labeled.
Visionary Solutions was founded by Michael Beattie, a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in Virginia and Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) in Washington, D.C. Living with vision impairment himself, Michael understands what it means to face life’s changes head-on — to adapt, rebuild, and thrive through adversity.
With background spanning law, social work, and disability advocacy, he brings both expertise and empathy to every client relationship, offering not just
professional guidance but genuine understanding.
Across the United States, the need for accessible, compassionate support continues to grow.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, more than 7.5 million students — about 15% of all K-12 students — currently receive special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA, 2022-23).
At the same time, research from the American Foundation for the Blind estimates that nearly 52 million U.S. adults report some degree of vision difficulty, including 3.7 million who experience serious vision loss even with corrective lenses.
Behind each of these numbers is a person, a family, and a story — people who deserve care that sees their strengths, not just their struggles.
Through Visionary Solutions, Michael has dedicated his career to helping individuals and families navigate vision loss, mental health challenges, and educational or vocational barriers.
The organization’s mission is simple but powerful: to create a safe, supportive space where every person can rediscover confidence, rebuild independence, and
move forward with purpose.
At Visionary Solutions, we believe that healing begins with empathy and grows through action.
We don’t just address problems — we build partnerships, foster understanding, and empower people to see beyond obstacles and embrace their potential.
Our work stands at the intersection of compassion and evidence-based practice — helping every client take steady, confident steps toward a more independent
and fulfilling life.

Areas of Expertise
At Visionary Solutions, we provide compassionate, individualized support for people navigating personal, emotional, or physical challenges. Our team is experienced in several therapeutic approaches designed to meet each client’s unique needs and goals.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps clients identify and change unhelpful thought patterns, develop healthier coping strategies, and manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma. Motivational interviewing focuses on strengthening personal motivation and commitment to change through collaboration, empathy, and empowerment. Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) offers a comforting and engaging way to reduce
stress, build trust, and encourage emotional healing through the therapeutic presence of animals.
We also work closely with individuals coping with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and bipolar disorder, helping them develop tools for focus, stability, and emotional balance. Our clinicians are skilled in supporting both adults and children, including families, navigating special education and advocating for
individualized education plans (IEPs).
At Visionary Solutions, we believe in each person’s ability to grow, adapt, and rediscover confidence and purpose. Our mission is to create a supportive environment where clients can build resilience, enhance independence, and move toward living more fully.
What We Can Do for You
Feeling Outnumbered at IEP meeting
-
Considering that a typical I.E.P. meeting consists of seven school staff, but only one or two parents, it’s natural to feel outnumbered.
-
Our presence and advocacy can help create a more balanced playing field.
-
You have someone on your side.
Coverage Area
-
Provide services in Fairfax County, Arlington County, and Alexandria City.
Non-Attorney
-
I am a social worker, but not an attorney. Special education services that do not involve going to court can be provided by non-attorneys. I provide comparable services to those offered by an attorney, but my hourly rates are more 75% less than that of an attorney.
Approaching School Staff
-
The Center tailors the approach to school staff based on your strategy. Since I have a law degree, I am capable of explaining a child’s entitlement to services in terms of regulations, statutes, and cases.
-
However, my master of clinical social work degree enables me to summarize the relationship between the child’s diagnosis, strengths, family, and the desirability for specific accommodations and services. This social work approach to advocacy facilitates a collaborative dialogue around the child’s best interests.
Championing Diversity
-
As the Washington Post recently stated, 60% of children in Fairfax County Public Schools come from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
-
We are knowledgeable and fully prepared to represent minority children including limited English learners.
-
We have represented dozens of clients from the Middle East, numerous clients from Latin America and Asia, and hundreds of African Americans.
